Meaning & Symbolism

Prechten draws from the ancient Alpine tradition of Perchtenlauf — a winter rite where horned figures parade through villages to drive out evil and awaken the light. These beings, often grotesque and beautiful in equal measure, straddle the line between guardian spirits and wild monsters.

In this work, Maison Douce reimagines the Perchten as contemporary archetypes: fierce, untamed, and sacred. Their presence evokes themes of transformation, ancestral memory, and the thin veil between the visible and the hidden. The print is both talisman and artwork — a protective force and a window into an older world.
